The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require employers to maintain electrical equipment so that it's safe. Landlords and holiday let owners also have a duty to ensure any appliances they provide are safe. PAT testing is the most practical way to show you're meeting that duty. We carry out PAT testing in Bury St Edmunds and across West Suffolk.

We test everything from kettles and computers to power tools and extension leads. Each appliance is visually inspected and tested, labelled with its result, and recorded on a register you can show to insurers and inspectors.

Who needs PAT testing?

  • Offices, shops, salons, cafés and other workplaces
  • Workshops, garages and sites with power tools
  • Landlords who provide appliances in rental properties. Social landlords must now have them checked at least every five years
  • Holiday lets, Airbnbs and serviced accommodation
  • Schools, community halls, churches and clubs

How often?

There's no single fixed interval in law. How often equipment should be tested depends on the type of appliance and the environment it's used in. Power tools on a building site need checking far more often than a monitor in an office. We'll recommend sensible intervals based on IET guidance and your risks.

Minimal disruption

We work through your premises methodically, testing equipment where it's used and keeping downtime for each item to a minimum. Any failed items are clearly identified, and we can often repair simple faults such as damaged plugs or leads on the spot.

PAT testing across West Suffolk

Based in Bury St Edmunds, we provide PAT testing for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Bury St Edmunds, Thetford, Needham Market, Sudbury, Newmarket, Elmswell, Great Barton and Ixworth, plus the villages in between.

Frequently asked questions

Can't see your question? Call us on 07738 271863 or use the quote form and we'll get back to you.

Is PAT testing a legal requirement?

The law requires electrical equipment to be maintained in a safe condition. PAT testing isn't named specifically, but it's the accepted way to show you're doing that.

How much does PAT testing cost?

It's usually priced per item, with a minimum charge. Tell us roughly how many appliances you have and we'll give you a quote.

Do you test new appliances?

New equipment from a reputable supplier usually just needs a visual check, but adding it to your register makes future testing easier.
