Fuse board inspections
Unsure whether your fuse board is safe or up to date? We'll inspect it, test the protective devices and explain what you have.
Your fuse board, or consumer unit, controls and protects every circuit in the property. Over time boards can deteriorate, connections can loosen and protective devices can stop working as they should. Many older boards were never fitted with RCD protection at all. We inspect fuse boards in Bury St Edmunds and across West Suffolk.
A fuse board inspection is a focused, affordable check of this critical part of your installation, so you can make an informed decision about whether to repair, upgrade or leave well alone.
What the inspection covers
- Condition of the enclosure, including any signs of overheating or damage
- Tightness and condition of connections
- RCD test operation and trip times
- Suitability of circuit breakers or fuses for each circuit
- Main earthing and bonding connections
- Labelling of circuits, with new labels where they are missing
Upgrade only if it is needed
If your board is in good condition with suitable protection, we'll tell you. If it isn't, we'll explain why and quote for a consumer unit upgrade. You make the decision, with no pressure.

Frequently asked questions

My fuse board trips occasionally. Is it faulty?
A breaker tripping usually means it's doing its job and detecting a fault somewhere on the circuit. We'll find what's causing it.
Should I replace a plastic consumer unit?
Not necessarily straight away. Plastic units aren't automatically unsafe, but new domestic boards must be non-combustible. We'll assess yours on its condition.
How long does an inspection take?
Usually under an hour, unless further testing is needed.
